Mark your calendars for the dedication of a mural for the blind. Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth (912 W. Broadway Ave.) will dedicate “Where Independence Begins” on Wed., Sept. 21 at 9 a.m.
Located on the Adams Street wall of the nonprofit, the one-of-a-kind art piece is accessible and interactive. Local muralist Kristen Soble painted the 2,000-sqft mural with high-contrast images and colors, tactile elements, and six audio devices to bring art to those living with visual impairments. The artwork corresponds with a QR code companion website that adds information through a screen reader. Near Southside construction company Basecom, Inc . donated its services to install stainless steel railings that feature inspirational messages in Braille.
In a press release, Lighthouse communications and content creator Curtis Rhodes said that the mural beautifies the neighborhood and creates “something accessible to those who are often left out of the equation.”
