Why the change?
Residents have reported the following concerns:
- Increased speeding
- Street racing
- Reckless driving (as it relates to pedestrian safety)
- Walkability and bike safety
Planned improvements
A study was done last summer to determine what changes are needed to improve driver and pedestrian safety. Here are a few of the recommendations:
- Reduce the number of lanes from 4 to 3
- Reduce lane width
- Reduce speed limit
- Create bike lanes
- Add a two-lane left turn lane
Expected benefits
- Crash reduction of 19-47% (especially rear-end and left-turn crashes)
- More predictable path for emergency responders
- Increased distance between roadway + sidewalks due to bike lane
