Last month, Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 22, allowing the Texas Comptroller to deposit $300 million into the state’s filming fund every two years. TLDR — filming in the state is about to increase.
What does this mean for you? Texas residents — with little to no acting experience — can apply online to participate in several state film projects, including hit shows like Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman” and “Lioness.”
So Fort Worth, are you ready for your close-up?
How to apply
- Go to My Casting File.
- Set up your profile by providing your eye color, hair color, height, weight, tattoos, piercings, etc.
- Upload one headshot and one full-body shot.

Hot take from the editor
Newsletter Editor Elizabeth, here. I was cast as an extra in the Season 5 finale of “Yellowstone,” which was filmed at Billy Bob’s Texas. Here’s what to expect if you land a role:
- 🌧️ Rain or shine, the show goes on. When I arrived, the line to get into Billy Bob’s wrapped around the entire parking lot — and yes, I stood in the rain.
- 🎬 Hurry up and wait. For one short scene, I was on set for 8+ hours and wasn’t allowed to use my phone.
- 💄 You’ll get touched up. Every extra’s outfit, hair, and makeup had to be approved. If you didn’t meet the standard, you were sent to wardrobe, hair, or makeup for a quick fix.
- 🤫 When the director yells “action,” you are expected to remain perfectly silent.
- 🍽️ If filming lasts more than four hours, the production crew will feed you — and trust me, you’ll be grateful for it, but it’s no steak dinner.
- ⭐ The perks are real. Hollywood might not always be glitz and glamour, but you will make memories — maybe even a few friends. I ended my day with a free Lainey Wilson concert. Not bad for a day’s work.
