How to apply to be an extra in upcoming film projects

Apply now to work on the set of hit shows like “Landman,” “Lioness,” or “The Chosen One.”

“Dynasty and Destiny” by Travis Lee Ratcliff was partly filmed in Fort Worth and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Last month, Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 22, allowing the Texas Comptroller to deposit $300 million into the state’s filming fund every two years. TLDR — filming in the state is about to increase.

What does this mean for you? Texas residents — with little to no acting experience — can apply online to participate in several state film projects, including hit shows like Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman” and “Lioness.”

So Fort Worth, are you ready for your close-up?

How to apply

  1. Go to My Casting File.
  2. Set up your profile by providing your eye color, hair color, height, weight, tattoos, piercings, etc.
  3. Upload one headshot and one full-body shot.
  4. Optional: provide your availability, skills + abilities, and experience, which may help you land bigger roles.
  5. Or, select “Open Calls” at the top and peruse the list of roles available.
  6. To apply, select a role, click on “Respond,” and confirm you’re available for the date.

Rain or shine, the show must go on.

Hot take from the editor

Newsletter Editor Elizabeth, here. I was cast as an extra in the Season 5 finale of “Yellowstone,” which was filmed at Billy Bob’s Texas. Here’s what to expect if you land a role:

  • 🌧️ Rain or shine, the show goes on. When I arrived, the line to get into Billy Bob’s wrapped around the entire parking lot — and yes, I stood in the rain.
  • 🎬 Hurry up and wait. For one short scene, I was on set for 8+ hours and wasn’t allowed to use my phone.
  • 💄 You’ll get touched up. Every extra’s outfit, hair, and makeup had to be approved. If you didn’t meet the standard, you were sent to wardrobe, hair, or makeup for a quick fix.
  • 🤫 When the director yells “action,” you are expected to remain perfectly silent.
  • 🍽️ If filming lasts more than four hours, the production crew will feed you — and trust me, you’ll be grateful for it, but it’s no steak dinner.
  • ⭐ The perks are real. Hollywood might not always be glitz and glamour, but you will make memories — maybe even a few friends. I ended my day with a free Lainey Wilson concert. Not bad for a day’s work.
