The Fort Worth Zoo is building a new education center to provide more learning opportunities for children and students.

Construction on the $3.6 million Education and Learning Center (ELC) will begin in February and wrap up in 2025, according to a recent filing .

Austin-based firm L M Holder III FAIA will oversee the design plans for the 11,000-sqft facility. The current 12,000-sqft education center will remain and continue to hold programs.

The new center will offer instructor-led programs about zoo animals along with activities like crafts, zoo hikes, and visits to the splash park. The zoo’s year-round programs provide opportunities for children to receive hands-on application of conservation principles and up-close views of the zoo’s animals.

According to the zoo , the new facility will provide space for the hundreds of students that are turned away each year.
