Epilogue: The Central Library will close next month

Bookworms have until Friday, June 30 to visit the Central branch of the Fort Worth Public Library.

The final chapter of the Central Library is upon us. In a city council work session this afternoon, the library’s interim director Marilyn Marvin will present the closing schedule for the downtown branch.

The building at 500 W. Third St. was sold in December 2022 to Dart Interests, which is exploring options to demolish the building and build a mixed-use office and residence.

At the end of January, the building’s hours were reduced to five days per week and the public meeting rooms closed April 1.

Public programming, passport operations, and school field trips will conclude on Saturday, May 6. Visit the library and attend story times through Friday, June 30.

Staff, book storage, and distribution will relocate to the Service Center (8604 Camp Bowie W. Blvd.) and other library assets will be distributed to various locations. The city will relinquish its use of the building one year from the date of acquisition.
