Step inside some of the oldest and most beautiful houses at the 40th Annual Tour of Historic Homes this weekend, Sat., May 7 + Sun., May 8. After two years of virtual viewings, the Fairmount Neighborhood Association is back to feature the rich architecture + history of the community.
The history of Fairmount
The Fairmount National Historic District in the Near Southside is part of the nation’s richest collections of turn-of-the-century housing. The 20 subdivisions were platted between 1883 and 1907 and were once occupied by business executives, doctors, lawyers + educators.
With help from the community, the area is being revitalized to restore its glory. Events like this weekend’s Home Tour raises money to benefit neighborhood improvements, infrastructure, parks + schools and programs.
