Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitely signed a declaration of local disaster Tues., Aug. 23 after the torrential rainfall and flooding on Mon., Aug. 22.

In effect through Mon., Aug. 29 unless otherwise extended by the commissioners court, the disaster declaration allows the county to file for financial assistance from state and federal sources.

Monday’s rain marked the second highest 24-hour precipitation total in North Texas, rising to 9.19 inches at the DFW Airport and over 10 inches in parts of Fort Worth. Tarrant County was among 23 Texas counties included in Governor Greg Abbott’s state disaster declaration at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

If your property has sustained damage due to the severe storms, file an Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) Damage Survey to report the incident and help emergency management officials identify necessary repairs. Note: This is not a substitute for reporting damage to your insurance agent nor does it guarantee relief funds.

Remember to proceed with caution through flood waters + look out for high water warning flashers. Check the city’s safety tips and the real-time flood warnings before venturing out.
