Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitely signed a declaration of local disaster Tues., Aug. 23 after the torrential rainfall and flooding on Mon., Aug. 22.
In effect through Mon., Aug. 29 unless otherwise extended by the commissioners court, the disaster declaration allows the county to file for financial assistance from state and federal sources.
Monday’s rain marked the second highest 24-hour precipitation total in North Texas, rising to 9.19 inches at the DFW Airport and over 10 inches in parts of Fort Worth. Tarrant County was among 23 Texas counties included in Governor Greg Abbott’s state disaster declaration at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
