Hello Sunday.

January 16 2022

This ain’t our first rodeo

Grab your best boots, your cowboy hat, and your favorite pair of jeans because the 125th Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is just around the corner.

Fri., Jan. 14-Sat., Feb. 5, the city will be jam-packed with rodeo events, live music, and good food + we’re here to break down everything you need to know. It’s our time to shine, Fort Worth.

Health protocols

Last year’s event was canceled because of COVID-19, and this year, organizers are expecting record-breaking crowds. Extra health measures will be taken, including free hand sanitizer and face masks for guests + free COVID-19 vaccines and boosters.

All-Western Parade

Opening weekend will kick off with a parade on Sat., Jan. 15 in Sundance Square. Spectators can see horses, marching bands, wagons, and floats, all for free — reserved seating can be purchased in advance.

Rodeo

Cowboys and cowgirls will compete to become rodeo champions at Dickies Arena in events like bull riding, barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling + more. Here’s a breakdown of the excitement:

  • Best of West Ranch Rodeo | Fri., Jan. 14 + Sat. 15 | 7:30 p.m.
  • Best of Mexico Celebraciòn | Sun., Jan. 16 | 7:30 p.m.
  • Cowboys of Color Rodeo | Mon., Jan. 17 | 2 p.m.
  • Bulls Night Out | Tues., Jan. 18 + Wed. 19 | 7:30 p.m.

Carnival Midway

If you need a break from the excitement inside the arena, there’s more fun to be had outside at the fairgrounds. Take a stroll through the shops, watch the cattle and livestock shows, jump on some rides + enjoy classic carnival food. Bonus: A rodeo ticket includes day-of fairground access.

Music

The Auditorium Concert Series will kick off at Will Rogers Memorial Center on Wed., Jan. 19 + feature performances from top acts like Kansas and Jeff Foxworthy. A free concert will also be held every night at the Bud Light Roadhouse, located on the east side of Dickies Arena.

Life is brewtiful, especially when there’s a new beer on the market deemed “healthy.” We can thank Super Bowl Champ and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman for this one.

Eight — the number he wore during his 12 seasons with the Cowboys — is described as a light lager with 90 calories, antioxidant-rich + without added sugar or cheap fillers. It will only be available in Texas bars and restaurants starting next month + in retail locations in March. Cheers to that.

THE WRAP

Editor’s Pick: I was born and raised in Texas so the thought of wind chills in the teens has me feeling a bit like this. I recently received a copy of Cooking at Home — a cookbook created by local chefs — and what better day to channel my inner Julia Child and cook up some dishes? I’ll keep y’all updated on how it goes.

Missed yesterday’s newsletter? We’ve rounded up some local chocolate shops in and around the city.
