Right now, many of us are sitting inside thinking that Punxsutawney Phil will predict six more weeks of winter — particularly with the icy weather we’re having. But let’s turn our thoughts to frolicking through the flowers when the weather clears and these major events take over the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.
The Rainforest Conservatory will be blooming with thousands of orchids at the biggest orchid event in Texas. Peruse different shapes, sizes, and colors and learn how to grow the delicate buds in your own home. Grab your tickets and make sure to catch the orchid-themed classes and experiences.
The semi-annual, family-friendly event celebrates Japanese arts and culture, set in the 7.5-acre Japanese garden with cherry, maple, and magnolia trees surrounding a tranquil koi pond. Spring into action and email to learn more about vendor and performer opportunities. Keep an eye out for tickets.
Fruit trees, perennials, shrubs, you name it — it’s time to spruce up your yard with seasonal sprouts available at the semi-annual sale. Check out specialty plants grown in the garden and by local plant societies. Become a FWBG member for first access to the sale, or email for vendor opportunities.
Looking for plant-themed activities each week? FWBG has an extensive calendar of classes, exhibitions, and events. We’re budding with excitement for:

City Editor Kate, here. 👋 I love home improvement projects. I recently moved into a 100-year old house and am spending my weekends puttering around and getting my hands dirty in the backyard.
I want to let y’all in on a gold mine for do-it-yourselfers and vintage-lovers — The Old Home Supply Store is an antique store-meets-salvage yard that has everything you need for a design project or home renovation.
Located on four corners at the intersection of West Jefferson and College Avenues in historicFairmount, it has everything from recovered mid-century tubs to antique doorknobs, vintage chandeliers to wrought-iron yard art. On Saturday, I picked up a couple of six-panel doors that I’m going to refinish.
Stop by daily for a home supply scavenger hunt and, if you’re looking for even more vintage home goods, check out our round up of local thrift shops.
