The Fort Worth Zoo is building a new education center to provide more learning opportunities for children and students.

Construction on the $3.6 million Education and Learning Center (ELC) will begin in February and wrap up in 2025, according to a recent filing.

Austin-based firm L M Holder III FAIA will oversee the design plans for the 11,000-sqft facility. The current 12,000-sqft education center will remain and continue to hold programs.

The new center will offer instructor-led programs about zoo animals along with activities like crafts, zoo hikes, and visits to the splash park. The zoo’s year-round programs provide opportunities for children to receive hands-on application of conservation principles and up-close views of the zoo’s animals.

According to the zoo, the new facility will provide space for the hundreds of students that are turned away each year.

The “The Art of Texas State Parks” will travel to several museums later this year, including the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Panhandle Plains Museum in Canyon.
