Everyone knows the best movies of the year come out between Halloween and New Years Day. Between the fluffy blankets — optional in warm Texas winters — and buckets of salty popcorn — mandatory regardless of the weather — the holiday season is prime movie-watching time.

If you’re ready to swap streaming for an old-fashioned trip to the picture show — or you just need to send the endless parade of visiting relatives out of the house for a few hours — we’ve got you covered. Settle in at these four local theaters for some new flicks and classic “talkies.”

Downtown Cowtown at The Isis, 2401 N. Main St.

The historic single-screen theater originally opened in 1914. After a storied history and full renovation, the venue reopened in its current iteration in 2017. Classic films are screened four times a day Sunday-Thursday. Bonus: If you’re the first person to arrive, you get to pick the movie.

Coyote Drive-In, 223 NE 4th St.

Pull up to the screen on Panther Island for a daily showing at sundown. Bring your pup (on a leash), blankets, and radio to watch new films and old favorites from the comfort of your car. Bonus: Items from the full food and drink menu will be delivered straight to your vehicle.

Now is your chance to re-enact every teen movie ever made.

The Modern, 3200 Darnell St.

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth has three ongoing screening series. Magnolia at the Modern shows critically acclaimed films, National Theatre Live broadcasts stage shows from the National Theatre of Great Britain + Movies That Matter includes free showings of human and civil rights films with moderated discussions. Bonus: Assistive listening options are available.

Rooftop Cinema Club, 200 Main St.

Opening tonight, the outdoor theater atop The Worthington Renaissance Hotel will feature a 360-degree view of downtown, Adirondack chairs, and a custom drink and food menu. Listen to the movie through state-of-the-art wireless headphones. Bonus: Park for free if you eat at Toro Toro.

Dickies is trading tried-and-true for high style with a new limited collection. Known as Dickies Blank Canvas, the nine-piece collection is designed by artists across the world.

C.N. Williamson and E.E. “Colonel” Dickie founded the Fort Worth company in 1922. The clothing brand started with basic overalls for work crews and makers of all kinds and expanded to zippered jeans and jackets. It was the first manufacturer to introduce permanent press fabrics. Now 100 years later, Dickies is the No. 1 work apparel manufacturer in the world.

The Blank Canvas pieces are inspired by traditional silhouettes + embrace innovative, sustainable designs that add a little spice to everyday looks. The one-of-a-kind pieces — including colorful takes on the 874 work pants, overalls, and Eisenhower jacket — are released every Tuesday at 10 a.m. through Tues., Dec. 13.

The collection is available online and items range from $70 to $300. Set a reminder if you’re in the market for some new threads because the pieces will not be recreated once they sell out. Stay up to date on Instagram.
THE WRAP

Today’s issue was written by Kate.

Editor’s pick: A couple weeks ago, we shared five city tours for visitors + asked you where you take your friends and family when they visit. Reader responses ranged from the museums and Botanic Garden to Magnolia Avenue restaurants and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing — but the most recommendation was the Stockyards and Joe T. Garcias. 🐂
