This year, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 29. Originally known as Decoration Day following the Civil War, the federal holiday was designated in 1971 to honor those who died while serving in the US military.

Friday, May 26
Honoring Hometown Heroes
, Highway 377, Granbury
Over 80 hero banners and 300 flags will fly all weekend. An opening ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. + a special Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday with a flyover, patriotic music, and a Former Army Golden Knight parachuting in with an American flag.
Saturday, May 27
Carry the Load
, Amon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth
At 11 a.m., the rally team will depart from the stadium on a 3.6-mile walk to the Fort Worth Police and Firefighters Memorial on West 7th Street. The team will continue on to Dallas at 2 p.m.
Sunday, May 28
Dallas Memorial March
, Reverchon Park, Dallas
Kicking off at 12 p.m., the two-day event celebrates fallen heroes with a 20-hour march. The commemoration will continue on Memorial Day with a closing ceremony at 11:30 a.m. at the Katy Trail Ice House.
Monday, May 29
“Lest We Forget” 5K
, Trinity Park Pavilion No. 1, Fort Worth
Join other runners at 8 a.m. to run or walk in memory of service members. Registration costs $8-$15 and packet pick-up starts at 7 a.m.
Memorial Day Ceremony

Remember and honor fallen heroes from 9 a.m.-10 a.m.
94th Annual Fort Worth Memorial Day Service
, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth
Join US Congressman Roger Williams, County Judge Tim O’Hare, Mayor Mattie Parker, NAS JRB Commander Capt. Mark McLean, and honorary chairman and WWII veteran Don Graves at one of the nation’s oldest Memorial Day services. The hour-long service starting at 10 a.m. will feature an F-18 flyover and dignitaries.
Memorial Day Celebration
, Haslet Community Park, Haslet
From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the city of Haslet will gather at the flag poles in the Memorial Garden for a time of remembrance.
13th Annual Memorial Day Celebration
, Mount Gilead Cemetery, Keller
At 11 a.m., Mt. Gilead Cemetery Association and the Keller + Golden Triangle Rotary Clubs will hold the annual celebration, featuring a Boy Scout flag raising, US flag retirement ceremony, speeches, and a tour of the cemetery. Outdoor seating is available for 100 people, but guests are invited to bring lawn chairs.

At 11 a.m., Veteran Affairs will host a commemoration ceremony to honor the patriotism and sacrifice of service members.
Concert and fireworks
, Flag Pole Hill Park, Dallas
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert at 8:15 p.m., followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m. In the event of rain, the concert will be moved to the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.
